Thom's Trip to NAMM!
Hey, I'm Thom, and I play guitar and do lead vocals on some of the male lead tracks that we do in Underground! In addition to playing weddings, I also have a solo project which consists of instrumental guitar originals.
Late December and January has been one of the busiest and nerve wracking times of my life (so far). In late December I put together a band (including Emma!) to go into a recording studio to track and film live playthroughs of two of my original tracks, and January took me to the NAMM convention in California. NAMM is a MASSIVE trade show that takes place twice a year between Anaheim and Nashville, and its where companies like Fender and Gibson release new guitars and products publicly.
Whilst I was invited to the show to do a few of my original tunes in a booth for a guitar company, NAMM isn’t just a trade show full of stuffy product purchasers and distributors! It's also where some of the best musicians on the planet meet up and check out new gear. The booth I was playing in was literally opposite a booth that had Henrik Linder (Dirty Loops) jamming out on their basses, and I could spot people whom i’ve been a fan of for a long time wandering about and listening - no stress!
Overall, the trip was absolutely nuts - I got to meet many of my musical heros, play at something that i’ve wanted to go to for years and have a nice trip to somewhere that's significantly warmer than the UK!
Here's some footage from the booth, and i'm looking forward to returning to the US next year for the next NAMM.
